		<Abstract>Background and Aim: Dog rose (Rosa canina L.) is a valuable deciduous shrub, which has long been used for food and medicinal purposes in various parts of the world. This study was laid out for the quantitative determination of the flavonoid components such as kampferol and quercetin, total phenol content and antioxidant capacity in petals and the fruit of the dog rose (Rosa canina L.) ecotype collected in Lorestan province.Materials and Methods: Petals and fruit samples of wild dog rose were harvested in June and September 2014 respectively. The samples were kept in cold box during their transportation to laboratory. Subsequently, the pericarp and seeds were separated and dried at room temperature. The antioxidant capacities of petals and fruits were determined using DPPH method. The flavonoid components, including kampferol and quercetin, were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The total phenol and flavonoids were measured using a spectrophotometric device. The results indicate that the amount of total phenol in petals (1957 mg.ml-1) was higher than that of fruits (937 mg.ml-1). The amount of total flavonoid in dog rose petals and fruits were 776 and 450 mg.ml-1 respectively.Results: The antioxidant capacity of dog rose was measured and found to be 9.6% in fruits and 66.7% in petals. However, the fruits contained 141 µg.g-1 of kampferol and petals contained 108 µg.g-1. The measured quercetin in petals (127µg.g-1) was higher than that of fruits (66µg.g-1). In this study, a direct relation was observed between the total phenol and flavonoid contents with antioxidant capacity.Conclusion: The results of this research showed that there are high amounts of total phenol and flavonoid contents, antioxidant capacity and also kampferol and quercetin in petals and fruits of dog rose grown in Lorestan. These results indicated the significance of dog rose in dietary and medical purposes. </Abstract>

		<Abstract>Background and Aim: Sarcocephalus latifolius serves multiple purposes in the treatment of different ailments in Nigeria. In this study, antiplasmodial and cytological activities of the ethanolic extract of leaves of S. latifolius were assessed using albino mice and Allium cepa models.Materials and Methods: For the antiplasmodial test, a total of 25 mice were divided into five groups of five mice. The groups were administered plant extract (25, 50 and 100mg/kg), chloroquine (10mg/kg) and distilled water respectively. This test involved two phases. In the suppressive phase, the extract was orally administered for four days after inoculation, and blood smear was prepared on the fifth day.  In the curative phase, the mice were inoculated with parasites three days before the administration of the extract to ensure the full development of parasites, and the extract was administered for five days. Blood smears were prepared along the periods of administration and five days after the administration. In cytotoxic study, onion bulbs were exposed to 25, 50 and 100 mg/ ml concentrations of the extract for 24, 48 and 72 hours. Subsequently, the macroscopic and microscopic investigations were evaluated.Results: All doses exhibited significant antiplasmodial activity dose-dependently. Root length significantly decreased in all concentrations compared to control. After 72 hours, the percentage root length and root inhibition at all concentrations were decreased. S. latifolius, therefore, demonstrated significant antiplasmodial activities. Availability of metabolites, such as alkaloids and flavonoids, may elicit endoperoxidation thereby causing death of parasites.Conclusion: This finding supports the traditional use of S. latifolius against malaria. Cytoarchitecture revealed aberrations like sticky telophase, vagrant metaphase and telophase which may indicate the signs of toxicity that could cause cell death. </Abstract>

		<Abstract>Background and Aim: Satureja khuzestanica is an annual herb that is used in Iranian traditional medicine to treat intestinal disorders such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. Satureja khuzestanica essential oil (SKEO) was tested to elucidate the mechanism(s) of its gastrointestinal activity in two animal models.Materials and Methods: The in vitro test of the effect of SKEO on the contractions induced by different spasmogens in isolated rat ileum preparations was carried out. The impacts of SKEO on intestinal transit, diarrhea, and intestinal secretion in mice were investigated with the charcoal meal, castor oil-induced diarrhea, and entropooling assays.Results: Pretreatment with SKEO at doses of (5-20 µg/mL) had a significant and concentration-dependent relaxant effect on contractions induced by acetylcholine, nicotine, histamine and serotonin in isolated rat ileum preparations. Moreover, it had an inhibitory effect on both K+- and Ca2+-induced contractions in the same tissue. At doses of 100 and 200 mg/kg, SKEO decreased intestinal transit, fecal weight and intestinal secretion.Conclusion: SKEO showed anti-diarrheal, anti-motility and anti-secretory activities that might prove beneficial in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders.</Abstract>

		<Abstract>Background and Aim: Some medicinal plants are conventionally used for treatment of different aspects of male infertility. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of Hibiscus Sabdariffa aqueous extract on spermatogenesis and sperm parameters of mice.materials and methods: Forty-eight were divided into 4 groups with 3 replications and 3 animals in per replication and received doses of 0, 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg of Hibiscus Sabdariffa aqueous extract for 28 days. Levels of testosterone, LH, FSH, TAS, SOD, GPx, blood variables, testis weight, sperm abnormality and viability, motility and sperm concentration were evaluated.Results: Oral administration of Hibiscus Sabdariffa aqueous extract lowered levels of FSH and LH in comparison to control group (P&lt;0.05). The level of TAS was significantly lower in level of 300 mg/kg of the extract in comparison to control group (P&lt;0.05).  The levels of SOD and MDA were significantly higher and lower in comparison to control group, respectively. The levels of triglycerides and cholesterol were significantly lower in control group in comparison to other groups (P&lt;0.05). Left and right weights were significantly lower in 100 and 200 mg/kg extract groups in comparison to 300 mg/kg extract group (P&lt;0.05). Normal sperm count was significantly higher in mice treated with 100 mg/kg of the extract. Defected sperms were significantly lower in mice treated with extract.Conclusion: It cannot be stated to use of clear dose of Hibiscus Sabdariffa aqueous extract in order to improve spermatogenesis and sperm parameters in mice. </Abstract>
